Frequently Asked Questions

Same colour, different system. DH1002 is a two-pack acid-catalysed lacquer: harder, more resistant to cleaning, moisture and knocks — the usual trade spec for kitchen doors. NG2502 is a one-pack pre-catalysed enamel: faster and easier to spray and repair, but less tough. For kitchens choose DH1002; for bedrooms and furniture NG2502 is fine.

Under DH1002 acid-catalysed colour use DF2011 AC White Primer. Under NG2502 pre-cat enamel use ND2012 or ND4350 white primer. Under NM2502 clear lacquer on timber use PCNL2501 High Build Basecoat. Keep to one system from primer to topcoat.

Acid-catalysed products (DH1002, DF2011, DM1132, SW 7037) need DV309 acid catalyst mixed in before spraying, and have a limited pot life once mixed. Pre-catalysed products (NG2502, ND primers, NM2502) are one-pack and spray as supplied.

NT019 Granyte AC thinners for acid-catalysed products, NT001 Dual thinners for general thinning and cleaning, and NT873 retarder in hot weather or when the finish blooms or dries too fast.

Not NM2502 pre-cat clear — it can yellow over white and pastel enamels. Use the non-yellowing DM1132 acid-catalysed clear instead.

Matt (10%) gives a flat contemporary look, semi matt (20%) a soft sheen that cleans more easily, and satin (40%) a gentle glow that suits clear timber. Most painted kitchens are sprayed semi matt.
